Drug Abuse Among Teens

Did you know that prescription medications are the most commonly abused drug among teenagers? This is something that parents and educators often times overlook.

We have many programs that educate parents, teachers, and health care providers on the seriousness of prescription medicine addiction.

Our Mission As Parents

Drug abuse among teens is a growing problem throughout the nation. At ages as young as elementary school our children are being exposed to drugs and faced with peer pressures. In order to avoid our children from becoming another statistic in teen drug abuse we need to work to education them as best as we can to make the right choices. That is the overall goal of parents, to keep our children on the right track in life and safe, keeping them free and clear of drugs.

Marijuana, The Gateway Drug

Statistics show that marijuana is typically the first drug abused by our nations youth.  Marijuana use is more wide spread among youth than alcohol. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 21.4 percent of high school seniors used marijuana in the past 30 days in 2010. It is a common misconception that marijuana is not addictive. However, the National Institute on Drug Abuse statistics show that 1 in 6 people who start using as a teen, and 25-50 percent of those who use it every day, become addicted to marijuana. This makes education and parental awareness of what their teens are doing more important to help their child avoid a life of addiction in the near future.

Where Parents Can Seek Help For Their Teens Drug Abuse Problem

Any teen abusing drugs is going to be resistant to receiving treatment. It is your job as a parent to protect them and admitting them into an teen drug abuse program, inpatient or outpatient will allow you to do so. There your teen will receive the treatment they need, receiving an education in chemical dependency so they are fully away of what their actions in drug abuse will do to their health, life and future.

Getting my life back in order was probably the most important thing in the world to me at that point. I was down and feeling hopeless. Thank god there are people who care.

Alex from Florida

I guess when you have a problem you don’t want to admit it. After pretty much destroying everything around me and getting to the point where I was homeless – enough was enough. Thanks to the support and the community that lifted me up I am not over 2 years sober.
