Drug Detox

Drug addiction affects millions of people world wide. For many help comes too late, with thousands of premature deaths each year. If you are suffering from a drug addiction and want to stop its use once and for all the first step is within an addiction treatment center for drug detox.

How Does Drug Addiction Start?

Many people begin using drugs as a way to escape from physical, mental or emotional pain, others are bored and looking to fill their time. Regular use of drugs results in the body developing a tolerance, requiring larger doses to acheive the desired effects. As the dose increases as well as the regularity of drug use a physical and psychological dependency develops. Your thoughts and actions begin to revolve around drug use and when abruptly stopping its use you are overwhelmed by symptoms of withdrawal.

Time and time again withdrawal symptoms will send you back to drugs for comfort. To successfully stop the use of drugs you need a comprehensive treatment program within a rehab center. There you will be cleansed of the chemicals and toxins related to drug abuse, treating your physical addiction and helping you to work through your psychological addiction.

The Start of Your Treatment

The first step to nearly all comprehensive treatment programs is drug detox. This is done during the withdrawal period where you may experience strong cravings and other painful symptoms that make you want to return to drug use. A prescription medication will be given to help relieve pain, control cravings and ease other symptoms of withdrawal during the detoxification process. You will be cleansed of the chemicals and toxins related to drug abuse and stabilized physically and mentally, prepared to continue on in your treatment.

Cleansing your Body and Preparing Your Mind

The most difficult part of the recovery process is going to be the initial drug detox. To cleanse your body and prepare your mind you will need to enter into a rehab center. With the care and support you receive you will be able to get sober and stay sober, leaving drug addiction in the past.

Sharon from Ohio

Getting my life back in order was probably the most important thing in the world to me at that point. I was down and feeling hopeless. Thank god there are people who care.

Alex from Florida

I guess when you have a problem you don’t want to admit it. After pretty much destroying everything around me and getting to the point where I was homeless – enough was enough. Thanks to the support and the community that lifted me up I am not over 2 years sober.
